Privacy Policy

Overview

Kitchen Friend is built with privacy as a core principle, not an afterthought. We collect absolutely no personal data from users of this app. Your data belongs to you — it lives on your device and nowhere else.

Information We Do Not Collect

• Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
• Location data
• Usage statistics, analytics, or crash reports (we do not use any third-party analytics SDKs)
• Permanent copies of recipe content, chat logs, or meal plans
• Device identifiers linked to your personal identity
• Any data that could be used to identify you as an individual

Note: We use anonymous Apple device identifiers (App Attest) and iCloud App Account UUIDs solely to securely enforce rate limits and subscription status across your devices. This cannot be traced back to your real identity.

Data Processing & Local Storage

When you import a recipe or use the KitchenFriend AI Chat, the app temporarily sends URLs, text, HTML, photos, or chat prompts (which may include dietary preferences) to our secure cloud servers.

Our servers process this data instantly to generate a response. We do not permanently store or log your chat history, uploaded images, or generated recipes on our servers. To improve performance, we temporarily cache the results of parsed web URLs for 30 days.

Once processed, all your data — including recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists — is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's local storage frameworks. Your personal kitchen library never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it.

Third-Party Data Processors

Kitchen Friend uses select third-party services to provide core functionality:

• Google Gemini API: We use Google's paid, enterprise-grade AI to parse recipes and power the KitchenFriend chat. According to Google's API Terms of Service, data sent to this API is not used to train Google's global AI models. Your sensitive dietary preferences and recipe data remain private.
• Unsplash: Used strictly to provide high-quality cover photos for recipes when an image is missing.
• Apple StoreKit: All in-app purchases and subscriptions are processed securely by Apple. We never see or store your payment information.

We do not integrate with any third-party marketing, analytics, or advertising networks.

Camera Access

Kitchen Friend may request access to your device camera for the following purposes only:

• Scanning recipes from physical cookbooks or printed materials

All camera processing occurs entirely on your device. No images or scan results are ever transmitted to our servers or any third party. Camera access is optional and the app functions fully without it.

Children's Privacy

Kitchen Friend does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since we collect no personal data whatsoever, this app is safe for users of all ages from a privacy standpoint.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this Privacy Policy, we will update this page and revise the "Last Updated" date. We will never introduce data collection without clearly communicating it through an updated policy.
